The mannequin is wearing two quechquemitl capes made in the Otomi community of Sta Ana Hueytlalpan, Hidalgo, Mexico. The wide red sash can be seen in part in the upper right corner. As you can see in the prior photo, Hueytlalpan women fold quechquemitl like a peaked caps when they wear them on their heads. I thought it funny that the museum (Museo de Arte Popular) just draped the quechquemitl atop the head. Perhaps it had been folded correctly at one time and then slipped off. Hueytlalpan weavers are known for practicing the rare technique of curved weaving. See note on photo

This is a quechquemitl from Santa Ana Hueytlalpan Hidalgo, an Otomi community near Tulancingo. This miniature quechquemitl is not worn as a cape, but the sides are folded inward and these are worn as caps by Otomi women of the town. The point at the botton edge of the quechquemitl was created using the technique of curved weaving.

The red garment is a small quechquemitl from the Otomi town of Santa Ana Hueytlalpan, Hidalgo state, Mexico. The Otomi weavers of this community know how to do the rare curved weaving on their backstrap looms. I have placed a note on the photo that shows the area of curved weaving. This technique is also done in San Pablito, Puebla. This kind of small quechquemitl is used as a head covering by Hueytlalpan women.
