This old photo postcard shows the lava from the Paricutin volcano that destroyed the Purepecha town of San Juan Parangaricutiro, Michoacan. The town church was almost totally covered by the lava. The steeple can be seen at right. Paricutin erupted out of a farmer's field in 1943 and the activity stopped in 1952. The inhabitants of this town were located to a new site near Uruapan
