The Yangzi is the longest river in China. It's formal name is
Cháng Jiāng (长江, "Long River").
But in it's lower reaches, after passing the Yizheng/Yangzhou area, it is called
Yángzǐ Jiāng (扬子江), from which the western names such as Yangtze, Yangtzekiang or Jangtsekiang are derived.
The upper reaches however, before the river enters the Sichuan Basin, are called
Jīnshā Jiāng (金沙江, "Golden Sand River").
Photo taken: on a flight from PEK (ZBAA) to SHA (ZSSS), position northeast of Yizheng in Jiangsu Province above the outskirts of Yangzhou(*), looking towards the sunset in the west.
Btw., the bridge just discernible in the distance, beyond the island, is the "Fourth Nanjing Changjiang Bridge" (南京长江第四大桥), about 43 km away from this position.
