Vintage Chinese military wrist watch, handwound, 17 jewel movement.
"Jixing" brand, made by the Jilin Watch Factory (吉林手表厂). Yes, this is a military watch - though people usually expect a more "
tactical" look from military watches. At only 34 mm over the crown (case diameter 32mm) it is also pretty tiny.
The "Jixing" (吉星) brand means roughly "Lucky Star". The 军用 (
jūnyòng) on the dial means "military use". The 軍 (
jūn) for "soldier" or "military" is the classic Chinese character.
These watches were issued during the China-Vietnam conflict in 1979 - and also in the "second phase" of this conflict in 1984.
Here is another military Jixing, in a gold toned case.
