The Bavarian National Museum, founded by King Maximilian II of Bavaria in 1855, was built from 1894-1900.
It is one of the most important museums of decorative arts in Europe. On an exhibition area of about 13,000 m² it houses a collection divided into two parts: the folklore collection and the decorative arts collection. The collections range from the early middle ages through the 2oth century.
