This structure is one of two county courthouses for Barbour County, Alabama. The county's other capitol is located in the lovely and historic community of Eufaula. Carl Herbert Lancaster, Jr. was the architect responsible for this building's design. It was erected in 1961 by contractors from the Mid-South Construction Company.

Barbour County is one of six counties in the Yellowhammer State with dual seats.
