This structure was originally erected in 1872 as a Classical Revival courthouse. In 1904 an addition was made to that courthouse that increased the size of the building greatly. In 1925 an earthquake damaged the entire structure and the remains were somehow incorporated into this current structure. Rebuilding it in a completely different Moorish-Mission style took place in 1926 and lasted until 1929. The architectural firm that worked on the building from 1926 to 1929 was the William Mooser Company. Today it is regarded as one of the more notable courthouses in the nation. It's one of my personal favorites.
The structure was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1981.
