User / courthouselover / Adams County Courthouse (Hettinger, North Dakota)
140,344 items
Built in 1928, this is one of the nicest courthouses in southwestern North Dakota. It was designed by architects Ira Rush and Fred R. Comb, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Hettinger, pronounced HET-ing-ger (with a hard G), is located on United States Highway 12 in southwestern North Dakota between Lemmon, South Dakota and Bowman. Adams County is not to be confused with Hettinger County, which is located to the north of Adams County with its seat at the town of Mott.

I find it interesting that Adams County, North Dakota was not named for one of the presidents named Adams but was named after a man named John Quincy Adams, who was a railroad agent who was instrumental in having the Chicago, Milwaukee and Saint Paul Railroad built through the state. It is one of 12 Adams Counties in the United States.
