This is the second oldest courthouse in Mississippi in continuous use; it was constructed in 1839-41 and designed by William C. Harrell. The oldest is located at Natchez in Adams County. This is one of five working Antebellum courthouses in the Magnolia State. The others are in Natchez, Port Gibson, Raymond, and Aberdeen.
Liberty is an interesting county seat; it is one of the smallest seats of government in Mississippi.
