Built in 1878 with the designs of Midwestern architect
John C. Cochrane, the old Lake County Courthouse has been converted into a mall in the center square of Crown Point. It is similar to Cochrane's courthouse in
Saline County, Missouri.
In 1909 and 1928 additions were made to it on the north and south sides. In 1973 the building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
