This stately 1937 courthouse is right across from the Fort Smith Federal Courthouse and former post office. Nelson, Bassham, and Wheeler was the firm responsible for this building's design. The structure was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.
Fort Smith is one of two county seats for Sebastian County; the other is Greenwood. Sebastian County is one of ten in the state of Arkansas that has dual seats.
