Erected in 1926, this stately Neoclassical structure was designed by architect J.J. Baldwin. It was expanded to the north and south in 1965, and in 1980 was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
In 2010 a newer courthouse was built two blocks to the south on Main Street. As a result this structure now houses the Liberty County Sheriff's Department and various county government offices.
Hinesville, Georgia is located to the southwest of Savannah, just south of Fort Stewart.
