Originally built in 1887 as a two-story structure, this house-like building was designed by architect Frank T. Smith of nearby Beaumont. In 1905, Hardin County built a larger masonry courthouse, and this building became a business. The top floor was removed in the 1930s, and the structure now stands at 1005 Redwood Street, directly east of the current courthouse. It houses a bail bonds office.
