Erected in 1898, this Romanesque Revival courthouse was designed by
Frank P. Milburn. It features eclectic elements including some Gothic and Mission Revival details. The building was slightly remodeled in 1938, and is a contributing property to the Anderson Downtown Historic District. The district was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979 and was increased in 1987 and 2018.
In 1991, a
new courthouse was built directly across Main Street from this building. As a result, this former courthouse now houses county offices.
