Erected in 1876, this lovely Gothic Revival structure was designed by New York architect William Appleton Potter. It is a contributing property to the Park Square Historic District, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975 and expanded in 1991.
The structure was initially used as a library, and from 1903 to 1932 housed the Berkshire Museum, a county historical society and genealogical museum. The building now houses the Berkshire County Probate and Family Court. The structure's name is sometimes spelled 'Athenæum.'
Pittsfield, Massachusetts is a lovely small city located in the Berkshires of the westernmost part of the commonwealth. It is home to roughly 44,000 residents (in 2020).
