This former jail stands at 1000 Benton Avenue. It was built in 1877 using a simplified Greek Revival design. The structure, which is now a museum known as the House of History, was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.
Located in the southwest of Iowa, Corning serves as the seat of Adams County. It is the hometown of Johnny Carson. One of his first jobs in media was in 1950 at WOW radio and television in nearby Omaha, Nebraska.
Adams County is the least populous county in the state of Iowa with 3,704 residents in the 2020 Census.
