This great 1905-06 Romanesque Revival courthouse was designed by the firm of Bruce Architectural Company of Birmingham. It replaced the county's 1870 whitewashed courthouse that still stands a bit south of this structure on Court Street.

The structure is a contributing property to the Daniel Pratt Historic District, which was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
