This courthouse was built in 1911 with Beaux-Arts elements designed by E. C. Heck. It is the oldest functioning courthouse in the state of Arizona.
Clifton is one of the strangest towns that I have ever been to. Not only is the courthouse located far outside of the downtown area, on the slope of a hill in a residential area, but there seems to be a very large moving gate in the center of town which looks like it can shut one side of town off from the other.
Greenlee County is the least populous county in the state of Arizona with around 8,500 people.

Clifton is a very interesting old mining town located in eastern Arizona. It is the county seat of Greenlee County, the state's least populous county. It is one of the most vertical county seats that I have seen along with Bisbee, Arizona and Eureka Springs, Arkansas. By vertical I mean it has many steep cliffs; whereas a horizontal city would be like Lubbock or Amarillo, Texas.
