Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park is located on the northeast side of Prairie Grove in Washington County. It commemorates the Battle of Prairie Grove, fought on December 7, 1862, in the Civil War. The battle secured northwestern Arkansas for the Union.

The park was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970 with a boundary increase 1992 and again in 2005. Prominent features of the park include its battle monument, a chimney carefully relocated here from the site of a skirmish, and the Hindman Museum, bequeathed by Biscoe Hindman, the grandson of General Thomas C. Hindman who commanded the Confederate forces in the battle.

The old post office mural from the New Deal is today housed in this museum just northeast of the old post office (today the chamber of commerce).

The University of Arkansas Campus Historic District was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.

The University of Arkansas (U of A, UARK, or UA) is a public land-grant, doctoral research university located in Fayetteville, in Arkansas's Washington County. It is the flagship campus of the University of Arkansas System and the largest, best-known university in the state. More than 27,500 students are enrolled in over 200 undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs (as of 2018). It is classified by the Carnegie Foundation as a research university with the highest level of research activity. Founded as Arkansas Industrial University in 1871, its present name was adopted in 1899 and classes were first held on January 22, 1872. It is noted for its strong architecture, agriculture (particularly animal science and poultry science), business, communication disorders, creative writing, history, law, and Middle Eastern studies programs.

Enrollment for the fall semester of 2017 was 27,558. The university campus consists of 378 buildings spread across 512 acres. Some well known architecture on campus includes Old Main, the first permanent academic building erected. Academic programs are in excess of 200. The ratio of students to faculty is approximately 19:1. The university also received a combined total of $103.2 million in research awards for the 2017 fiscal year.

UA's athletic teams, the Arkansas Razorbacks, compete in NCAA Division I as members of the Southeastern Conference (SEC) with eight men's teams and eleven women's teams in thirteen sports.

Built in Queen Anne and Romanesque revival styles, this corner bank building was erected in 1915 on the historic Fayetteville Square. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.

Fayetteville is located in northwestern Arkansas in one of the fastest growing regions of the state. It is the county seat of Washington County and home to the University of Arkansas.
