This new courthouse was constructed in recent years to replace the county's previous 1958 and 1978 courthouses. Unfortunately the county's earlier 1885 Romanesque courthouse (seen here: www.floridacourthouses.net/Alachua/alachua.html ) was demolished in the interests of modernizing local government facilities, thus destroying the county's last architecturally noteworthy capitol.

Built in 1958 on the old Alachua County Courthouse square, this Postmodern structure has today been replaced by a new courthouse just a few blocks to the south. It really isn't anything special.

Constructed in 1940, this rather handsome Classical Revival structure replaced the county's previous 1908 courthouse designed by Edward C. Hosford. That courthouse is still standing and is today used as the Emily Tabor Public Library.

The old Baker County Courthouse was designed by architect Edward C. Hosford and built in 1908. It was replaced in 1940 and has been used as the Emily Taber Public Library.

The Colonial Revival structure was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

Built in 1913, this structure burned in 1920 and was remodeled a bit. It was the courthouse where the Gideon vs. Wainwright trial began.

Panama City, besides being infamous for Springtime debauchery and the idiocy of young adult life, is really a rather lovely community with clean streets and an amiable populace.
