This former Art Deco courthouse was completed in 1939. It was designed in a joint effort by the firms of Tourtellotte & Hummel and Wayland & Fennell. It was constructed using Indiana limestone. After the county government relocated to a newer building in the early 2000s, the building hosted the Idaho State Legislature while the 1906 State Capitol was being renovated.

Built in 1915, the old Adams County Courthouse in Council was designed by Charles Kaufmann and constructed by George F. Brinson. Today it sits vacant on a hill on the western edge of the town's downtown area, replaced by the new court facility at U.S. Highway 95 and Industrial Avenue.

The structure was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.
