Artist: Gerald Foster
Year: 1938
This is one of three tempera murals located on the second floor mezzanine level of the Poughkeepsie post office lobby.
This magnificent post office was erected in 1937-39 using the Dutch Colonial Revival designs of architect Eric Kebbon, who was overseen by supervising architect Louis A. Simon. It was designed to match the historical Dutch character of the region and the use of fieldstone was an important aspect of its design, directly favored by Treasury Secretary Henry Morgenthau and President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Roosevelt himself laid the cornerstone at a dedication ceremony during celebrations of the 250th anniversary of Poughkeepsie's settlement on October 13, 1937. It features five murals in its lobby. The building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.
