Erected in 1908, this Beaux Arts courthouse was designed by South Carolina native William Augustus Edwards, of the firm Edwards, Walter, & Parnham. Edwards designed a number of other courthouses and schools in the Southeast. An arcade connects it to the adjoining Abbeville Opera House and Municipal Center, which Edwards also designed. The edifice was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1981. It is also a contributing property to the Abbeville Historic District, listed in 1972.
