Just when daylight was breaking on the morning of Nov. 11, 2014, I noticed a silhouette of a dog at the back door. I thought it was my chocolate lab "Dakota" who passed away a few months earlier. (He haunts me to this day. I kid you not.) I opened the door and a dog took off. Later during the day the dog was back a few times, skittish, keeping a good distance. Skinny as all get go and apparently she lost her way in the desert or she was dumped by someone not wanting her. She was MIA. Took some photos.
At the time, I also had a very large, up there in age, Husky-Wolf Hybrid lover boy named "Smokey" aka "Dopey." "Dopey" due his fondness of pouncing on psychedelic river toads and licking his paws..... I really didnt want another dog, having lost one so recently and having an elder dog with health and drug :) problems.
The following morning, she was at the back door again. I opened it, she took off. Again keeping her distance throughout the day. I put out some water for her and some chicken meatballs that were leftover. I took more photos. She recently had pups.
The 3rd morning, there she was again. But this time, sound asleep, making herself right at home on the patio furniture. I rubbed her under her chin and said "Hiya Honey love, Come on, Let's go." She followed me into the house, jumped up on a couch and went back to sleep. I took more photos through out the day, posted them on Craigslist and at the bulletin board near the rural mailboxes for my town. Nothing became of it.
Brought her to a Vet. She was around 3 years old. Had her spayed, vaccinated. Havent got a clue what kind of dog she is...Maybe Border Collie mixed with German Shepard and Chow and Golden Retriever and Standard Collie. There's a lot of hair.
I had another dog. A refugee of the road.
She's a good dog. Quiet. Still skittish. Doesn't like loud noises, voices raised or arms raised. She runs and hides. Loves going to the groomer (she's a fur ball) but gives me the stink eye afterwards for a week or so. Even has a favorite toy. She had a box of stuffed toys to pick from..... She picked Dakota's favorite toy.... a stuffed purple "Lamb Chop." I did mention that Dakota haunts me...right?
Have a great Veteran's Day.

She's a bit sad these days. Recently she lost her human friend and companion. At night she lies on a throw rug at the foot of his bed. 10/2021
Have a great Veteran's Day.
Happy Birthday Honey Love.

"My Sweet Honey Love" dog. aka "Pookie woo" and "Miss America." A very round fur ball. She's 11 years old now. The cactus wren, hummingbird and curved bill thrasher nests are ultra soft for their babies. My vacuum cleaner bag is always full.
