Back to The Silly Series my ongoing project which is of mostly visual translations of idioms.
This one means to fail to understand each other: to be confused because each person has a different idea about what is being said or what is happening .
This originates from the early days of telephones when the operator would take a wire and link it to the phone line you wanted. Sometimes the wires got crossed and then you ended up speaking to someone else.
