Over a number of years, many ships have been beached at Purton,on the River Severn,to strengthen the nearby canal bank.Obviously, and sadly, with the passing of time, many have eroded and rusted away, leaving oddments here and there.

One of the many remains at Purton Ships Graveyard. This is all that is visible of the Chepstow trow "Edith".Launched in 1900,she was beached here circa 1962,making her one of the more modern vessels used.Sadly, over the years she has been badly vandalised, and was actually set on fire at one time. All that is visible these days is the engine room cowling - but more may lay underneath.
