Dwarf Whitetail Deer fawn (a.k.a. Whitetail, White-tailed Deer, Virginia Deer; Odocoileus virginianus) - Pleasant Plains Road Overlook Parking Area, The Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge, Harding Township, New Jersey

The wood post in this image is about 2 feet tall, which would make this guy about 18 inches at the shoulder!¹
And using the width of the 6x6 post in the image as a size reference, I calculated this dwarf Whitetail was less than 2½ feet from nose to tail!

Size Calculation Technique
The note box on the deer's face is the same width as the 6x6 post to the left of the fawn (actual post width = 5½"), and since the deer is roughly at the same angle of view as the post, the post width can be used as a gauge!
It is also noteworthy that the image was captured with a 300mm lens, so the difference in size at a given distance is minimized.
And since the deer is closer to the camera, any size error (due to camera distance) would make the deer size estimate even smaller.
So, using the above size calculation technique, this 6 month old fawn is about 5 post widths from nose to tail
(i.e. 28 inches long, or smaller )!!!
