I was walking the streets of Sheffield, Illinois trying to find some interesting to photograph. I ran into this gentleman. I commented on how nice his beard looked. He said thank you and from that we talked on the sidewalk for about a hour. He told me he has had a bearded since 1972 and it has been long enough once that he could tuck it into his belt. He was a welder for many years and his beard has never got in his way. He also said he was mechanic, plumber, carpenter and a Vietnam vet. He went on to tell me how he fell from some scaffolding causing many injuries and was not able to work anymore. He was a very interesting man and he told me many stories about his life. In this hour or so we were talking I was trying to get the courage up to ask him if I could take his photo. I have never ask a stranger before if I could take their photo. Well...I ask and he agreed. I was so nervous but I also felt like I made a friend.
