...Copenhagen metro is driverless and on the way in we bagged the front seat and then shared the view with a party of young school kids that got on at the first stop after the airport.

They lurk at the base of Copenhagen City Hall - they also lurked round the City Hall fountain but despite numerous attempts the light and the surrounds were not with us and we didn't get a good fountain shot.
Doing some research they are mythical city dragons that guard the City Hall. They also feature in the fountain.

The Lur Blowers is one of the more well known statues - it is located right next to the Rådhuset - the City Hall. It is by Siegfried Wagner and Anton Rosen, and they was created between 1911 and 1914. The brick colmn is 40ft high - originally only one lur blower was planned which explains why they are jostling for space.
Local lore (similar to the liver birds in Liverpool) has it the the lurs will sound if a virgin walks past!
A lur is a trumpet-like instrument of the Viking Age made of wood. The instrument was about 42 inches long, made of wood which had been split lengthwise, the interior hollowed, then the halves banded back together tightly with willow bands. This instrument is almost identical to those played in Scandinavia up to the present day, with the current instruments being held together with strips of birch bark instead of willow bands. It is unclear if The Vikings' considered the lur to be a musical instrument, as the primary use for the shepherd's lur-horn up to the present to call the cattle home. Horns like this may also have been used for for giving warnings to the nearby community or summoning people together in times of need or danger.

I had read about the underwater sculpture in our walks guide and was made up to spot it before Dennis - in fact I suspect we both would have missed had I not seen it! It is located in the canal by the Højbro bridge.

"Agnete was a young peasant girl who was walking by the shore as a merman emerged from the waves and offered her his hand. Agnete fell in love with him immediately and went to the bottom of the sea with him, where she gave birth to his seven sons. After eight years, however, as she was sitting by the crib of her youngest son, Agnete heard the sound of churchbells ringing from her old village, and she felt homesick. She got permission from the merman to go to church, on the one condition that she would come back to him after mass. But of course, once on land again, Agnete found that she missed the church and her family too much, and she wouldn’t return."
The following link is from the re unveiling of the sculpture in 2007.
