Dennis' small holiday notebooks number amoungst his treasured possessions, but often I can't read his writing - and sometimes he can't!

Normally they are very factual - save for the odd bits that I add, and Dennis is kindly transcibing them into computer files so that I can (using the photos) add extra bits and pieces.

This was a grab shot as he travelled from Innsbruck to Obergurgle and I was very surprised how well it came out. With a few repeat asks he has allowed be to post. Just a slight crop and sharpen.

Monument to Martinus Scheiber (1856-1939), pioneer of Austrian tourism in Obergurgl, by sculptor Karl Obleitner.

Martin Scheiber built the Edelweiss hotel in 1889. He also built the Ramolhaus hut.
See www.edelweiss-gurgl.co.uk/tyrol-hotel-history.en.htm

Our Scottish friends that we met again in Obergurgl told us that he used to point to the mountain tops. But now he is surrounded by buildings and just to his left is a compund for building materials!

I think she was proud of her bell.

I baaaed and they came over to have their faces stroked.

Another day I baaaed and maaed and we got followed for over half a mile - we tried to loose them by going fast over rocky paths in the mist, but they kept coming - I had a fear of still being followed as we got back to Obergurgl.

Does anyone know why their ears are so long, it doesn't seem sensible for a sheep that can be out and about in snowy conditions?

From www.sheep101.info/breedsT-V.html
Found in Tyrol of Austria and Bolzano of Italy. It is a coarse wooled breed, belonging to the Lop-eared Alpine group, which is kept for meat production. The Tyrol Mountain is similar to the Carinthian but has better wool, a white face and longer ears. The breed is also occasionally pied or black. The Tyrol Mountain originated from Bergamasca, Steinschaf, and Spiegel variety of Carinthian.

The cable car and the hut was closed due to the cycle event down the valley. So the absence of people and the mist gave us chance to play. You can see this was intended for smaller kids, so we had to keep our legs up - it went quite fast - this is on the return journey.

There had been more snow, but it was melting fast.
