The 'Routemaster' is perhaps the most iconic bus ever produced and the first of the four prototype's built takes pride of place in the active collection of the London Transport Museum. RM1 was completed in 1954 and it's first public appearance was at the Earl's Court Commercial Motor Exhibition held in September of that year. Some 55 years later RM1 SLT 56 is seen on Bollo Lane, Acton whilst giving free rides to members of the public as part of the London Transport Museum Acton Depot Open Day. Saturday 10th October 2009.

Of the four prototype's built the London Transport Museum own RM1 (active) and RM2 (under restoration), the London Bus Museum at Brooklands own RML3 (active) and Roger Wright (London Bus Company) owns CRL4/RMC 4 (under restoration).
