Penrith Winter Droving 2021 - Saturday
This year’s festival was the 10th anniversary of Penrith Winter Droving, and it was held under the dual horrors of both covid19 and horrendous weather conditions. Even this couldn't stop it though, and it was an overwhelming success like the previous nine years.
For the first time in The Winter Droving’s history the event was held over 3 days, celebrating Music, Art, Culture and Light. Rocking musicians, fire breathing performance art and larger-than-life illuminated lanterns, once again saw droves of people descend into Penrith’s town centre ready to join in with the masquerade.
This year’s Winter Droving was different because it had to be. With the potential gloom of COVID still hanging in the air, organisers curated a festival that abided by social distancing rules, whilst still being the same event that everyone knows and loves. It was an opportunity for the town to celebrate after a turbulent past 18 months. The organisers aim was once again to bring people together and reignite the Cumbrian community spirit.
The Winter Droving spanned 3 days, from Thursday 28th to Saturday 30th October 2021.
