Former PMT Leyland Lynx H860 GRE wears what I understand is meant to be an idea of what Potteries independent 'Stoniers' may have looked like if PMT had kept the name going after they took over the Berresfords group in 1987. I think this bus is usually used for spot hire to operators from Reliance Bus Works.

It is seen opposite Stoke-on-Trent railway station operating a free service to the POPS rally at Wedgwood.

Where else in 2012 could you go and ride on not one, but two Perkins V8-510 engined buses? The answer is, of course, the fantastic POPS rally, held at the Wedgwood factory/ visitor centre.

The Bournemouth bus is ultra rare Daimler Roadliner KRU 55F, on loan to flickrite 'Renown'. This bus has been the subject of a fast-track restoration since it arrived from the south coast. I was lucky enough to get a drive of this amazing vehicle (and the Lancet behind it). Behind no.55 is Northern Scottish Dennis Lancet A506 FSS, which makes a fantastic racket.

Thanks to all those involved in making this such a great day!

The midday sun glints off the roof of former Bristol C8322 (UHY 362) as it waits for factory workers heading home for dinner...
...well, not really, it is actually far away from Bristol and the carefully restored KSW6B is working a free bus service at the 2012 POPS rally and has just dropped off passengers outside the now closed Wedgwood factory.

I have to say that this was one of the nicest REs I've ever ridden on. It's comfortable ECW seats and homely interior were a great place to enjoy the booming exhaust and whining gearbox.
TCH 274L was new to Midland General in 1973, but is now preserved as a Trent DP bus.

Having grown up in two areas served by former Tilling operators (United Counties and York - West Yorkshire), the Bristol Lodekka and it's inevitable ECW body were something you took for granted.

A ride aboard Lincolnshire FS5G brought it all back - the austere green rexine-covered seats, the spartan interior. And that smell, a mixture of stale cigarette smoke, damp and something akin to the smell you used to find in telephone kiosks (no, not urine). Probably something that was used to clean them.

And there was always a setright speed ticket jammed into the frame of the seat in front.
