... is longer ago than you think. I still regard the 1990s as recent. However, time moves on and things come and go from our daily lives. I took this shot in 1994, when I was on my way from York to Keighley. I came out of the station to City Square, as I had plenty of time before catching a train to Keighley. Alongside one of the many Yorkshire Rider Atlanteans can be seen a Mercury phone booth. The bus itself, carries an advert for Talkland, who were a similar outfit to Carphone Warehouse, where phone contracts could be taken out with Cellnet, Vodaphone and so on. Now most people go straight to a network provider, such as Three, rather than through a broker.
Leyland AN68/ Roe 6215 (JUM 215V) was just an everyday part of the Leeds bus scene, like Liverpool and Manchester, Atlanteans seemed to be kings of the road. I always felt that Leeds had some of the rudest bus drivers going; only Manchester was even worse.

Another unrecognisable view of City Square, Leeds. It's been extensively rebuilt since this photo was taken in September 1994.
Atlantean 6076 (HWT 62N) is on service 17 to Whinmoor, with dire Volvo B6 "rubber bus" 3006 (L106 PWR) on the stand next to it. The rear of 6215(JUM 215V) is just in shot on the right.
One of the batch of Alexander Dash bodied Volvo B6s ended up in Northampton, I think as fleet no.436. Like all B6s, it was wont to break down regularly and always felt like it wasn't particularly solid, hence my calling them "rubber buses".

In the late 1980s/ early 1990s, Kingston-upon-Hull City Transport launched 'Citilink' as a low cost unit to fight competition from East Yorkshire Motor Services. If the KHCT fleet wasn't good enough, they put a mouthwatering selection of elderly but well presented Atlanteans into this attractive livery.
New as Hull 255 (PRH 255G) was transferred into the Citilink fleet and numbered C10. It entered preservation in the early 1990s, and ran in Citilink livery. In this guise, C10 is seen on the Knavesmire in York, attending the York Historic Vehicle Rally, 1994.
