Delaware National Guard leaders Maj. Gen. Michael Berry, Command Sgt. Maj. Mike Fields, and Lt. Col. Lindsay Davis had the privilege of presenting the Congressional Gold Medal to the family of Cpl. Benny Rofulowitz (deceased), during a ceremony held at the Milford V.F.W. Post 6483. Cpl. Rofulowitz served courageously in the Army’s 65th Infantry Regiment, known as the Borinqueneers, during four Korean War campaigns before his untimely passing in 1965.
The Borinqueneers were awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in 2014 by President Barack Obama, recognizing their heroic service in WWI, WWII, and the Korean War. As the first segregated Hispanic military unit and the first from the Korean War to be honored, their legacy continues to inspire us all.
