Backlit version of the Snowflake, which I uploaded yesterday.
I just love backlighted origami-models, when possible of course ;-))

For the Macro Mondays theme 'White on White'.
Because we have no snow (yet), I'm folding origami-snowflakes instead. And especially for this occasion with a very little hexagon …..so it would fit the limit. Started with a hexagon about 8cm, final size 5cm. It was hard….. the others ones I will fold with a bigger paper ;-)
The background paper is the same as which the snowflake is folded with, and yet it looks different.
Happy Macro Monday!

Snow Crystal(s) of Translucent Folding is a Golden Oldie in ‘origami world’ and I finally found all seven variations, if you include the basic form too then there's eight of them.
I made a kind of systematic view, to show you all the variations.
There is the basic form (on the left in the middle with 3 arrows), which can be altered into 3 'Snow Crystals'.
The 'hexagon-crystal' at the bottom has one variation and the one on the right has three.
It is always a big surprise how a model can change just by adding a few more simple folds. Origami and folding is great fun ;-))

It is fun and interesting to fold this "old Snowflake", designed in 1993. Because it is tessellation related, but only using the necessary lines, so it looks as clean as possible, without superfluous creases.
I folded it from glassine, which gives a great effect when backlighting is used and the hidden beauty becomes visible.
One could also fold it with not translucent paper, and then it looks like a lovely flower. ;-)

This 'Origami-Snowflake' is a tessellated one, as you can see at the folded grid and a very complex one. You see the backlit version.
Benjamin Parker invented it years ago and Monika Hanková found the photo of this beauty again and reengineered it, she is very good at that! She also was so kind to show us how the backside looks like, so I was able to reengineer it too.
This is just one 'Snowflake', you can make a whole field of them ;-))
Model: origami "Snowflake" or "Uncovered Treasure Pattern"
