First of all, big thanks to everyone who made a suggestion of what the "in-between-step" might turn into. Here is the result, a little hedgehog ;-))
Fortunately the sun was shining late yesterday afternoon, so I could take a picture, while the hedgehog was enjoying the warmth of the sunlight.
It is a Golden Oldie this little "Hedgehog', designed in 1977, and one of the first animals using tessellation technique or maybe even the first, I don't know for sure.

By accident, I found that there is also a big sculpture (made by Alex Pentek) inspired by this origami 'Hedgehog' along the N4 motorway (County Wexford, Ireland), that cuts through a wooded area. Placed on the cut away embankment since 2010.
This 10 ton coaten steel hedgehog has been carefully avoided by cars and reminds road users of the surrounding wildlife and natural heritage of which we must take care. You can see a few photos of the sculpture here

"Alex Pentek is an Irish artist who has a growing portfolio of national and international work that explores different site specific ideas in a broad range of materials. As well creating large scale site specific work, his gallery based practice explores temporary mediums such as folded paper and sound performance which he has exhibited across Ireland, UK and Australia."

Well, here is the end result, an origami Daffodil.
In my previous photo, you see the prefolding of this model up-side-down; so the upper part are the leaves and the lower part the flower.

I added some artificial snow for the photoshoot, to give it a wintry feeling. In 'Origami-land" the weather can be easily influenced ….. ;-))

This origami 'Daffodil' is a rather old model by John Richardson (1977) and it needs a bit of glue for closing the flower. But the folding proces is great ;-))

Folded from one piece of rectangle (2:3) two colored kraftpaper, 26,4x39,5cm. Final height 20cm.
With big thanks to my origami-friend Marijke. She gave me the paper, as I didn't have this color combination ;-)).
