Facts about the real living green turtle:
Sea turtles are dependent on beaches for nesting. Uncontrolled coastal development, vehicle traffic on beaches, and other human activities have directly destroyed or disturbed sea turtle nesting beaches around the world.
Info: www.worldwildlife.org/species/green-turtle

I used that fact as an inspiration for this photo:
""""After the long travel through the sea (see first comment if you missed yesterday's upload) this origami green sea turtle also finally reached the beach, where she was hatched."""""

It is the same origami model as yesterday, but now topview.
Happy Tuesday ;-))

Facts about the real living green turtle:
The green turtle is one of the largest sea turtles and the only herbivore among the different species. Green turtles are in fact named for the greenish color of their cartilage and fat, not their shells. In the Eastern Pacific, a group of green turtles that have darker shells are called black turtles by the local community. Green turtles are found mainly in tropical and subtropical waters. Like other sea turtles, they migrate long distances between feeding grounds and the beaches from where they hatched. Classified as endangered, green turtles are threatened by overharvesting of their eggs, hunting of adults, being caught in fishing gear and loss of nesting beach sites.

"As the Crane one thousand years, the Tortoise ten thousand years" is an old Japanese saying describing the symbols of youth and old age (long life), the Tsuru (crane) and Kame (turtle).
This beautiful origami-model is from Kazuo Kobayashi. It's folded from one piece of paper, 25x12,5 cm.

Roberto Gretter is an interesting designer, this is one of his model: the star turtle, folded from a hexagon, 18 cm. It's a nice model, I enjoyed folding it. This little origami turtle is now walking on a field of lentils ;-))
I don't know how this Japanese paper is called, but it has more or less the same structure as elephant hide.
