Ruby-Crowned Kinglet.

Tiny bird measuring from 3 3/4 to 4 1/2 inches long. Similar to Golden-Crowned Kinglet but greener and with no face pattern except for a narrow white eye ring. Males have a tuft of red feathers on their crown which is kept concealed unless the bird is aroused.

They inhabit coniferous forests in summer and are also in deciduous forests and thickets in winter.

They range from Alaska east to Newfoundland and south to southern California and New Mexico in the western United States and tothe Great Lakes region and northern New England in the eastern United States. Winters from southern British Columbia and California across southern tier of the US to southern New England.
