Doube-breasted Cormorant.

At 30 to 35 inches long, a solidly built black cormorant with an orange throat pounch and a long neck. It's long hooked bill is tilted upwards when it swims. During breeding seasons the adults have a short tuft of feathers over each eye. The young birds are browner with a tan or whitish color on their necks and upper breast. When they fly their neck will show a slight crook unlike the Great Cormorant or Neotropic.

They inhabit lakes, rivers, swamps and coasts.

They range from Alasks east to Newfoundland and south to Mexico in the west and the Bahamas in the east. THey winter mainly on coasts.

Sterling State Park, Monroe County, Michigan.
