As they say in Iceland, "It never hurts to look up."
The activity of the aurora borealis above the horizon that night in Southern Iceland kept me busy attempting to capture the amazing color, light intensity, and patterns of the Northern lights. But every so often, I would tilt my head back and look straight above me. It was a strange sense. Almost, like a voice saying "look up."
The photograph provides a cenital view of the aurora borealis which happens when the aurora appears directly overhead. This typically happens when geomagnetic activity is high. I feel extremely grateful for the opportunity to witness the aurora and for whoever told me to look straight up in the night sky.
