A panorama made in Photoshop from seven images taken with an Olympus C700UZ. Spot the birds that appear twice!

Michaelmas Cay is a great day-trip from Cairns! It is part of the Great Barrier Reef, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The trip which I took comprised perhaps 20 people, of whom fewer than half had interest in the birds; I didn't note any behaviour from the birds which would point to their being disturbed in any way, they seemed accustomed to human presence at the distances marked, as is evident in this photo.

"Michaelmas and Upolu Cays is a national park in Queensland, Australia . . . 33 km east of Cairns. It comprises two small cays on Michaelmas Reef . . . within the Great Barrier Reef.

Michaelmas Cay is important as a breeding site for several species of terns. It has been identified by BirdLife International as an Important Bird Area (IBA) because it supports over 1% of the world populations of greater and lesser crested terns. Sooty terns and common noddies also breed there." (Wikipedia)

"Der Cay erodiert fortlaufend und entsteht an anderer Stelle neu, abhängig von Wind- und Wasserströmung. Auf diese Weise wandert Michaelmas Cay jedes Jahr um etwa einen Meter." (Wikipedia - the German Wiki is more informative than the English)
