The views from anywhere along the summit ridge are spectacular. The northwest side of the ridge is dominated by Cerro Tronador with Volcan Osorno and Puntiagudo clearly visible in Chile in the distance. The southeast side of the ridge is dominated by Lago Nahuel Haupi, with Lago Moreno and Brazo Tristeza also present.

It's not the summit yet.
There are 30 meters (98.42 ft) of height left to reach the summit, Pico Turista on your right.

***

You have to know what you are getting into.

Each mile is 1000 feet of elevation….the first two miles are tough. After about a mile I reached the first Refugio. One more mile got me to a flat but dull part along a road/path, then I started the elevation gain again for about a mile to the second Refugio.

After that it is all rock scramble.

Not scrambling over boulders, but loose rock or granite faces and crevices that are dangerous but fun.

I first reached a little pond (from which the Refugio gets it water supply), and then scrambled for the last 2 or 3 miles to the top.

The first peak is white and the views of the lakes are amazing.

I still had energy, and my legs complied, I went down the other side of this tower and up the second, black tower (Cerro Lopez) to reach the true end of this hike which afforded me a 360º view and is spectacular.

Just remember, you have to come back down… oy, the knees.

A great hike altogether but difficult and dangerous for sure at the rock scramble. Not for the faint of heart, and certainly not for those out of shape.

TIP: follow the red dots!!

Steep, dusty, not too crowded, don’t under estimate, insane views from the summit. At this point in the summer there is not much snow remaining at top though I did have to cross two sections.

I took advantage of this 10,1 km (6,275 miles) round trip trail near Bariloche, Rio Negro. Generally considered a challenging course, it takes an average of 6 hr 8 min to complete.

This is a very popular area for backpacking, camping and hiking, so you're likely to meet other people as you explore. I met few people.

The best time to do this trail is from November to April.

At 1,720 m (5,643 ft) MSL.

From the refugio, a steep trail continues uphill for another half hour to a small lake in the sector referred to as Hoya de Lopez.
