MMIW - The Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women. A red handprint, usually painted across the mouth, is a symbol that is used to indicate solidarity with missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls in North America, in recognition of the fact that Native American women are up to 10 times more likely to be murdered or sexually assaulted. In the US, Native American women are more than twice as likely to experience violence than any other demographic. One in three Indigenous women is sexually assaulted during her life, and 67% of these assaults are perpetrated by non-Indigenous perpetrators • • • mmiwusa.org/ • • • Photo taken at the march & rally for reproductive rights downtown Grand Forks, June 27, 2022
