The best light for a photo is daylight, sadly that's in short supply here now, so this was taken at the end of summer. Indirect sunlight at a window provides a lovely soft picture. Even when the main light is daylight, I use a low-powered flash setting to lift the darkness in the shadows and put a little sparkle in the eyes.
