Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve is in southern Colorado. It’s known for huge dunes like the towering Star Dune, and for the seasonal Medano Creek and beach created at the base of the dunes. The backcountry Medano Pass Primitive Road winds through a canyon toward the Sangre de Cristo mountains. Trails lead to forests, wetlands and alpine lakes like Medano Lake, which is home to trout and tundra wildlife.

Garden of the Gods Park in Colorado Springs showcased the red, pink and white rocks (sandstones and limestones) formed millions of years ago due to upheavals in the earth’s surface and erosion.
"White Rock" was the first large rock we saw entering the Garden of the Gods from the east and the last we photographed. It's composed of white sandstone of the Lyons Formation, bordered by a crinkly limestone ridge and layers of soft gypsum. The setting sun made the rock glow.
*No EXIF as I lost all the photos from that trip (really don't know how that happened!), good thing I had posted the better ones on my Facebook account, and thanks to Topaz Lab's Gigapixel software I was able to restore some details and quality back.
Have a safe and happy day!

About 40 minutes after the last photo, we finally saw all the key sites of Dinosaur Ridge. The sky was getting really dark, it looked threatening so we should head back... BUT wait, I need to take a few more photos.
(The main road is Hog Back Rd.)
Here's a little background on the Dinosaur Ridge Trail: Construction of West Alameda Parkway was finished in 1937, it cut into the Dakota Hogback and uncovered layers filled with dinosaur fossils and tracks. Designated as a National Natural Landmark and as a Colorado Natural Area, the section of West Alameda Parkway which contained the fossils is open to pedestrians, bicyclists, hikers, and closed to through traffic. The trail has more than 15 fossil and geologic sites, each marked by interpretive signage.

Photo was taken around noon time on Sep 6, 2018...
We drove up to the summit of Lookout Mountain to do some scenic hikes; that's Golden, Colorado (home of Coors Brewery) in the midground.
Buffalo Bill's burial site and museum was not far from where we stood.
