The Columbia Icefield has one of the largest accumulations of ice and snow south of the Arctic Circle, it covers an area of nearly 325 sq kilometres (125.5 sq miles), sometimes reaching a depth of 300-360 metres (0.186-0.224 miles).

The continuous accumulation of snow feeds eight major glaciers, all visible from the Icefields Parkway.

Seen here is Athabasca Glacier during golden hour, it's roughly 6 km (3.73 mile) long and 1 km (0.62 mile) wide.

Many thanks for your visits, comments are always welcome and appreciated; have a wonderful day ahead, my dear photography friends! 💕😊

"Mt Lawrence Grassi is the tallest peak of the Ehagay Nakoda massif, a multi-peaked mountain located immediately south of the town of Canmore.

The peak is named for Lawrence Grassi (1890–1980), an Italian miner who emigrated to Canada in 1912. After working with the Canadian Pacific Railway for several years he worked in the Canmore coal mines. Grassi also became a well-respected climbing guide as well as building many trails in the area including one to the Grassi Lakes which also bear his name."

This mountain is probably by far the most photographed inside Banff National Park and as you can see it's for a good reason!

Being up here for almost a week, I can tell you that it definitely takes quite some hard work and lots of luck to get good photos. We mostly have sunny days, the type with not a single cloud in the sky. There's always some wind, too, making it near impossible to see any reflection in the lakes.

That very morning (our 4th inside the park), I was rewarded for the first time with the right amount of clouds, color intensity, and near windlessness. It was so cold (~32F), though, but I was well prepared with a merino wool hat plus my down jacket's hood, 4 layers on top and 2 layers on bottom. However, there's no way to cover my fingers and at times I just couldn't feel them.

There was no one around besides me in that section of Vermilion Lake that morning, but further down the road there were quite a few photogs clicking away. One was there throughout the night taking timelapse photos; another one (my new friend) was there until 2am to capture the Milky Way and returned before 5am. My new friend is a gifted and hardworking photog, his dedication is most admirable! (He's not on Flickr but on 1x.com.)

It took me over half an hour to shake off the chills in my bones afterward, but looking at the images I captured, I found my "pain (cold) and suffering (lack of sleep)" so worth it.

So far we only explored the southern section of Banff National Park. The more we go north, the less cell reception we will get.

Currently we are back in Calgary to restock our food suppl. it's a beautiful city 80 miles east of Banff.

I'm sorry I can't get to view your photos these days, may you continue to be blessed with good health and company!

Thank you for your visit, my dear Flickr friends!

The Canadian Rockies are world renowned for their rich turquoise-colored lakes. The rich color is created by the density of rock flour suspended in the water.

That day we hiked the relatively easy and short Valley of the Five Lakes Trail in Jasper National Park, immersed ourselves into nature and saw five beautiful glaciated lakes up close.

Picture was taken at the Third Lake, where a set of the iconic red Adirondack chairs of the Canadian National Parks system were perched on the edge of the lake.

As luck would have it, as soon as we arrived, two men took up seats. It was a hot day so one even took his shirt off and hung it on the back of the chair. I lingered around for 15 minutes at least, hoping they would leave but they showed no sign to. As I was about to give up hope, they left the chairs and stood next to the tree with the shirt remaining dangling on the back of the chair. They were admiring the lake, so I quickly walked up, brushed his shirt down to the chair, snapped a quick closeup photo, and walked away quickly. I wonder if the man ever questioned why his shirt fell down!😁😁😁

I recognize the composition is not ideal but I am happy I got my shot!

On a different note, we finally arrived home late last night, after making a 9,787 miles (115,897 km) road trip. I can tell you that I sure missed my King size bed!☺️

Thank you for your visit and please enjoy the rest of the weekend!

I can't believe that in less than a year, two of my favorite towns were devastated by wildfire, first Lahaina of Maui and now Jasper of Alberta.

Tears swell up in my eyes watching the video footage of what's left in the town as my heart grew heavier. The only consolation is that unlike Lahaina, there's no life (human) lost in this fire.

I don't have any photos of the town itself, but this is Pyramid Lake, located in Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada, right outside of the town Jasper. It lies at the foot of Pyramid Mountain, a natural landmark that overlooks the town.

May there be more peace and less devastations in the world! 🙏
