Spent a day and a night in the Bisti Badlands, which offer some of the most unusual scenery in the American Southwest!
It's listed as one of the must visit adventure destinations by National Geographic Travel in 2019; well deserved!💯

Alien Throne, located in Valley of Dreams, is a hoodoo formed by erosive forces like wind, rain, and flowing water beating away at stacked layers of soft and hard rock. The softer layers wear down relatively quickly, while the harder layers resist for longer, and it ends up with such a unique appearance.
Getting to the Valley of Dreams, and thus Alien Throne, is not easy. It’s in a remote wilderness area with no roads, no signs, and no official trails.
Google Map failed to take us to the trailhead, as we gave up hope and turned around, we were then lucky to bump into a photographer whom we had met the evening before. He so happened was heading out that way for sunset & sunrise photoshoots. We followed him through some serious bumpy and sandy off-road trails, where a 4x4 and high clearance vehicle was a must.

Thank you for your visit, wishing you a happy day ahead!

Stone Wings, aka Flying Wings or Three Wings, are located in Bisti Badlands. Other than the Eggs, the Stone Wings are probably Bisti's most famous photo location. The middle wing is also an arch, called Klingon Bird of Prey Arch.
The Bisti Badlands, NM, is one of the most unique places we have ever visited and definitely one of coolest places that not many people have ever heard of.
"At one time, this 45,000-acre swath of desert was completely submerged by a sea during the Cretaceous Period. As the water receded, layers of sandstone, mudstone, shale and other sedimentary rocks were revealed, creating the Kirtland Formation, only to be carved out by braided streams that flowed through the landscape. The result is today’s dry, eerie badlands, which contain some of the most amazing sandstone rock formations on Planet Earth." ...Smithsonian Magazine
We went there for sunset and saw quite a few of what looked to be mountain lions fresh footprints on the trails. Eek!

Mirror Lake was one of the many wonders we saw at Carlsbad Caverns National Park.
Unfortunately, my Mirror Lake wasn't that mirrored due to the low water level, and the iconic mirror-image text that read right-side up on the surface of the pool was hard to make out! 😞😞😞
Carlsbad Caverns formed over 250 million years when hydrogen sulfide water mixed with rain seeping through limestone to create sulfuric acid that dissolves limestone to open up large chambers. After the chambers were created, rain seeped through the limestone, picking up carbon dioxide and calcite minerals from air and soil. As this mix dropped into the cave, carbon dioxide escaped into the air and the mineral deposited as a crystal of calcite to create the formations.
There are many different formations such as Stalactites (columns hanging from the top), Stalagmites (columns from the bottom up), Columns (when stalactite and stalagmites meet), curtains, flow stones, cave pearls, and popcorns.
The variety of formations made Carlsbad Caverns very beautiful and a joy to tour.
Thank you for your visit, I wish you a happy day! 😊

Isolated, vibrant, and surreal.
The alien-like badlands of New Mexico are among the most beautiful places in New Mexico, definitely a photographer's dreamland.
Photo's taken shortly after sunrise...
My sincere thanks for your visit, dear Flickr friend!💕
