Grevilleas are today's theme. Grevilleas are a diverse group of plants native to Australia, with over 300 species known to exist. They are part of the Proteaceae family, which includes plants such as banksias and waratahs. The majority of grevillea species are native to Australia, with a small number found in New Guinea and Indonesia

Grevillea speciosa, commonly known as red spider flower, is a species of flowering plant in the family Proteaceae and endemic to the Central Coast of New South Wales. It is an erect shrub with elliptic to circular leaves and more or less spherical, downturned clusters of red flowers.

Grevillea Wakiti Sunrise is a dwarf to small spreading native Australian shrub. The fern-like leaves are soft grey green, deeply lobed with a sharp point on the end of each lobe. The flower heads are spectacular bushy racemes of apricot coloured flowers that are produced from winter through to summer.

Although Song Sparrows are regular visitors too my backyard they are flighty and hard to photograph. Also, unlike White-crowned Sparrows and Juncos there is usually only one Song Sparrow. Backyard photos, West Valley area, Yakima County, Washington. IMG_0116
