A winter photo, it always leaves the question in my mind - how did it grow like that.

When I tell Americans I went to White mountains of California to photograph these, I get a blank stare as most have only heard of New Mtns in New Hampshire. So this is @ 10,000ft east of the Sierras seen in distance & across the 395. The pines are currently the oldest living things on the planet with many 4-5000 yrs old. This one is dead but some look just as dead with a little bit of live branch. Well worth a hike up there but I could only do the Discovery trail as the other trail was still closed in june for snow!
